Butcher Shop Owner Arrested for Disrupting Inspection in Ragama City

Officials from the weighing and measuring unit of the Gampaha District Secretariat were conducting checks on butcher shops in Ragama city.
During the inspection, one shopkeeper and his son knocked down the scales when questioned about the use of unapproved scales.

The officials stated that the butcher shop was using unapproved scales, leading to incorrect readings. The incident resulted in the arrest of the shopkeeper and his son.

The raid was conducted on the instructions of Gampaha District Secretary Lalinda Gamage and Director of Weights, Measures, Standards, and Services Department Sujeewa Akuranthilaka.

A total of 16 businessmen were fined for using unapproved and unsealed scales.
