A businessman, proprietor of the room rental establishment and restaurant “New Amba Sevana” on Katunayake-Colombo Road, was brutally attacked and killed by unknown assailants wielding sharp manna knives today (07). The tragic event unfolded in a gambling hall located in front of a funeral home in the Seeduwa Liyanagemulla area.
The victim, identified as 46-year-old Thommage Erosion Rajindra Fernando, a resident of No. 92, Colombo Road, Katunayake, succumbed to the fatal assault. The police revealed that Fernando had two murder cases pending against him in the Negombo Magistrate’s Court. Furthermore, he was known for his habitual gambling activities, often engaging in late-night gambling.
The gruesome attack occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. when two unidentified assailants arrived on a motorcycle at the casino where Fernando was gambling. The attackers swiftly executed the deadly assault with sharp manna knives.
The Negombo Magistrate promptly conducted an on-site investigation at the scene of the murder. The victim’s body has been transported to the Negombo General Hospital, where it is currently held pending further investigations.
The motive behind the murder remains under investigation as authorities work to unravel the circumstances leading to this tragic incident.
