Bus fares will likely be hiked following the lifting of curfew on Monday (13). According to the State Minister of Transport Dilum Amunugama bus passenger services will be allowed to resume. However given the risks due to the Covid 19 pandemic only one passenger will be allowed to travel in a seat. He said as a result bus fares would have to be hiked by 50 per cent.
He said bus fares are being hiked to support the bus passenger services industry which has been hit severely due to the Covid pandemic and that fares will be reduced once the risk of Covid 19 passes. Accordingly the minimum fare will be increased from Rs. 12 to Rs. 20.
