Hospital sources have reported that 12 individuals injured in the bus accident on Kollupitiya Duplication Road this morning (06) are currently under medical care at Colombo National Hospital. Fortunately, their conditions are not considered serious at this time.
A spokesperson from Colombo National Hospital confirmed that, tragically, five people lost their lives in the accident, with only two of the deceased having been identified so far.
In total, 17 individuals injured in the accident were admitted to the hospital earlier in the day. Despite earlier media reports suggesting that four of them were in serious condition, the National Hospital has provided reassurance that the injured are, in fact, not in critical condition.
Acting Minister of Transport Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Western Province Deshbandhu Thennakoon, and Chairman of the Ceylon Transport Board Lalith Alwis were present at the hospital to inquire about the well-being of those injured in the accident.
