Around 42 members of the Front Line Socialist Party (FLSP) were arrested by the Police in Colpetty today including its leader Kumar Gunaratnam and propaganda secretary Duminda Nagamuwa. The group had attempted to stage a protest in front of the US embassy in Colombo against the killing of George Floyd.

However, the Police had obtained a court order yesterday preventing the members of the party from going ahead with the protest.

According to Senior DIG Colombo Deshabandu Tennekoon those arrested will be charged with violating a court order and violating the quarantine regulations in place. He said around 100 protestors were observed taking part in the protest. The Police following a tense situation dispersed the gathered crowd.
