In connection with a substantial fraud amounting to 82 Lakhs, Central Province Chief Secretary Ajith Premawansaya has taken the decision to suspend the services of an assistant manager employed at the Municipal Council.
The fraud was committed through the creation of counterfeit documents pertaining to shops within shopping malls owned by the Mahanuwara Municipal Council.
The illicit activities involved embezzling funds from 31 shops situated across four shopping complexes under the jurisdiction of the Kandy Municipal Council.
The suspension of the officer follows the recommendations issued two weeks ago by a three-member committee established under the supervision of Central Province Local Government Commissioner Chamila Athapattu. The committee was assigned the task of investigating the fraudulent incident.
The official notification of suspension was dispatched to the employee through the Provincial Revenue Commissioner. However, as the employee did not report to work on that day, alternative arrangements were made to send the letter via registered post.
