Arrivals from London sent to separate quarantine facilities

Army Commander Shavendra Silva says that when President Gotabaya Rajapaksa decided to suspend all flights coming to Sri Lanka from the United Kingdom due to the new Covid-19 virus strain, the passengers of the plane arriving in Sri Lanka from the UK at the time were directed to a separate quarantine facility. 

He points out that all of them have been directed to a separate hotel and subjected to quarantine according to a special process.

The Commander said that although the quarantine system in place for crew members has been different, the crew of the aircraft, which had arrived from the UK have been quarantined at the same location along with the passengers.

According to the Sri Lankan health department, the new strain of the virus found in Great Britain is 70% more transmissible than the current one, people who arrived from the UK are expected to be subjected to 14 days of mandatory quarantine and further house quarantine.
