In relation to the shooting incident that occurred last Thursday night (14) at a fish merchant in the Walpola area of Ragama, the police have apprehended three individuals.
The arrested include the motorcyclist who transported the assailant, the person who provided the motorcycle, and a spy—all in their twenties and reportedly drug addicts. The motorcyclist and the motorcycle provider are residents of Modara, while the spy hails from the nearby Tsunami village.
The investigation has revealed that the assassination plot was orchestrated on contract by Valle Suranga, a fugitive currently hiding in the country. The motive for the attack stems from a recent murder in Wattala, where a disciple of Welle Suranga was hacked to death by the underworld criminal Chamara.
Mishu Kumara, the fish businessman targeted in Thursday’s (14) shooting, is the wife of the victim in the Wattala murder and a close relative of Chamara. The vendetta against Chamara led Mashu Kumara to enlist Valle Suranga for revenge.
In the shooting, the fish businessman’s mother, a 17-year-old youth, and the businessman himself sustained injuries and were admitted to Ragama Hospital. The arrested individuals have been placed under detention orders, and the interrogation process is underway.
