Arrested Sepal is interrogated by the CID

You tuber Sepal Amarasinghe, who allegedly made insulting statements on the sacred Tooth relics of Kandy was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department in the Bellanwila area last evening (05).

He is currently being interrogated by the CID. His controversial statement became a talking topic in Parliament yesterday. Meanwhile, President Ranil Wickramasinghe also asked the Inspector General of Police CD to immediately initiate a comprehensive investigation into the alleged statement and incident of building a fake temple in the Kurunegala area.

Police Media Spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Nihal Talduwa said that following a letter sent to the Ministry of Public Security, this complaint has been forwarded to the Inspector General of Police as well as the notice given to the President by the Maha Sangharatna of the Malwatu and Asgiri factions.

The spokesman said that the investigation into these incidents was handed over to the Deputy Inspector General of the Criminal Investigation Department and accordingly two police teams under an Assistant Superintendent of Police started the investigation.

In connection with the construction of a fake Dalanda Maliga similar to the Dalanda Maliga in Kandy, making statements insulting religions, the Anti-Religious Expressions Act No. 41 of 1958, the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights No. 56 of 2007, and the existing laws of the Penal Code can be given severe punishment.
