The Colombo Magistrate’s Court today (21) issued warrants for the arrest and production of former Minister Douglas Devananda after he failed to appear before the court to provide evidence in a case.
The case involves Subramaniam Manoharan, a businessman from Wellawatte, following a complaint by Douglas Devananda with the Criminal Investigation Department. The complaint pertains to issuing two bad cheques, each valued at Rs. 10 million, in 2016.
When the case was taken up today, Devananda did not appear in court to testify. Although his lawyer claimed he was unwell, no medical certificates were submitted to support this statement.
As a result, the Magistrate issued warrants for his arrest and ordered his production before the court.
