The Catholic Council says that the Minister of External Affairs, Prof. GL Peiris will be given an opportunity to meet with Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith only if the government implement the recommendations of the final report of the Presidential Commission for Easter Sunday attacks and establish trust among Catholics of the country.
Issuing a statement with regard to the recent request of the Foreign minister to discuss the current situation, including the Catholic Church’s recent protest against the Easter attack with the Archbishop sets conditions for Prof G.L to a meeting cardinal Fr. Cyril Gamini Fernando disclosed their stance today (01).
Accordingly, he may be given an opportunity to meet with Prof. GL Peiris, but he is aware that steps will be taken to bring in the initial steps recommended by the Presidential Commission on the Easter Sunday Attack PCOI Report as well as the reestablish mutual trust between the Government and the Catholic Community, Fr told the media today.
Father Cyril Gamini stated that the law enforcement action against those responsible for the Easter attack is yet to be implemented. He also said that the recent allegations made by the Director-General of President’s legal affairs PC Harigupta Rohanadheera and IGP CD Wickramaratne regarding the Easter attack on the government had damaged the trust in the Catholic Church and should be taken into consideration.
