Department of Immigration and Emigration says that from today (15) onwards it will be possible to send applications for passports through the online system.
The official website of the Immigration Department is WWW. IMMIGRATION. GOV.LK. According to Harsha Ilukpitiya of the Immigration department, information can be entered and applied for passport by visiting the website.
Application to Apply for a Passport Online
- If applying for the first time, National ID and birth certificate are required.
- A photocopy of the data page of the passport is required if the passport is already in possession i.e. the passport has expired.
How soon will the passport be available
- The passport will be available on an upcoming date after 3 days under expedited service and 14 days under normal service.
The cost of acquiring the passport
- Under express service Rs. 15,000 and for general service Rs. 5000 will be spent.
How to provide fingerprints
- For this purpose, 51 sub-offices of the Department of Registration of Persons and 4 Regional Offices of the Department have been established with necessary facilities morning to 4.15 pm on working days of the week under the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
Candidates who can apply through online mode
- Those above 16 years can apply.
- Au. For children below 16, parents should visit the Divisional Secretariats or the Head Office.
If there is any mistake in the passport
- This facility does not provide service for procedures such as name or occupation entry in passport.
