The leader of the Jathika Jana Balawegaya, Anura Dissanayake, told Parliament today (24) that three military officers, including former Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuiyakontha, have been blacklisted for working together with the JVP-backed JJB.

Raising a question under Standing Order 27/2, he said that retired Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuiyakontha has been barred from entering an Air Force base, going into a SLAF gymnasium, and attending any function organized by the Air Force.

The MP alleged that Tuiyakontha was blacklisted for engaging in active politics with a political force against the government.

“There is no obstacle for any retired military officer to engage in active politics. There are many retired military officers, such as Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka and Kamal Gunaratne, in active politics, but they have no problems or restrictions in carrying out their political activities.

It is unjust to impose restrictions on these three officers simply because they are members of an opposition political party. Mr. Dissanayake said.
