Another reason to delay of 21st amendment – Minister Wijedasa explains!

Wijedasa Rajapaksa, Minister of Justice, Prisons and Constitutional Reforms says that although the 21st Amendment to the Constitution was scheduled to be presented to the Cabinet yesterday, it was not presented to the Cabinet as some party leaders were unaware of the contents of the amendment.

The draft bill is expected to be presented to the Cabinet next Monday after a special meeting of party leaders next Thursday (16), the Justice Minister said.

This special meeting to brief party leaders on the 21st Amendment to the Constitution will be chaired by the President and the Prime Minister.

The government says it plans to elaborate on the terms and content of the 21st Amendment to the constitution at the party leadership meeting.

On several previous occasions, the Minister of Justice had tried to present the 21st Amendment to the Cabinet and get it approved, but failed due to various reasons.
