Another Sri Lankan Airlines flight was forced to divert back to Katunayake Airport, 1 hour and 7 minutes after taking off from Katunayake, owing to a technical glitch. The pilots discovered the technical fault in midair after flying for nearly thirty minutes.

Accordingly, Sri Lankan Airlines Airbus A330 flight UL225 returned to its home base with a full complement of passengers (256) and 13 crew members.

The flight took off from Katunayake at 6.27 p.m. yesterday and returned around 7.33 p.m. local time. The pilot decided to return to the Katunayake airport after discovering an error in the air pressure inside the aircraft.

Following its landing, aircraft engineers attended to the technical error while the passengers were dispatched to nearby hotels until the aircraft’s technical error was rectified.

The passengers were subsequently flown to Dubai around 11:33 this morning in another aircraft, an Airbus 330 belonging to Sri Lankan Airlines. Trade unions say that this is the third such incident reported in a row and has triggered credibility issues for the airline.
