Internal sources suggest that a group of security department officers is allegedly issuing permits to Katunayake Airport development workers without security reports for a fee of two thousand rupees. Monthly permits are claimed to be granted without the required police or clearance reports, and employees without these certificates are said to be charged two thousand rupees for permits.
Funds for these permits are allegedly collected from employees of the main company overseeing the airport’s development and its sub-projects. Workers holding such permits are purportedly granted access to sensitive areas, including the airport runway.
Insiders claim that a prominent figure in the security sector is involved in orchestrating this alleged sale of passes. Funds are reported to be deposited into an account at the Bank of Ceylon in Katunayake, with the remaining amount distributed among participating security officers.
Additionally, it is alleged that a renewal fee of two thousand rupees is demanded after one month from the initial permit issuance. The reported irregularities raise concerns about security protocols at the Katunayake Airport development site.
