The Director General of Agriculture, Dr. Ajantha Silva has said that they would not accept arrived to Colombo Chinese organic fertilizer on the ground that they have already been rejected. He further states that is completely wrong for China to send a ship with the relevant fertilizer to the Port of Colombo, challenging the reports on the Chinese organic fertilizer samples tested by the Plant Quarantine Center and the Standards Institution.
He also said that China could not arbitrarily challenge the laws that have been put in place in Sri Lanka’s ecosystem.
The Director General said that he had replied to a letter from China yesterday (22nd) challenging the investigation reports of the Sri Lanka Plant Quarantine Center and that he was not prepared to take responsibility for the ship sent from Sri Lanka without approval.
He said that he had sent a letter to the Ports Authority informing them that the ship sent by the Chinese company would not be allowed to enter the port even if it was parked outside the Port of Colombo and that the cargo would not be allowed to unload for any reason.
He further said that China had been informed in previous discussions that it was ready to purchase organic fertilizer only if it is 100% compatible with the ecosystem of Sri Lanka after the sample testing as per the agreement.
