Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Saman Ratnayake, has raised concerns about certain trade union leaders exploiting their positions in the health sector for personal gain and political ambitions.
He alleges that some of these leaders are receiving salaries from the health sector while secretly harboring the intention to enter parliament through the national list.
According to Dr. Ratnayake, these individuals are unable to gain power through popular vote and are resorting to spreading false propaganda through the media to gain publicity. He emphasizes that some of these leaders lack in-depth knowledge about medicines and yet hold press conferences discussing medical matters to further their political agendas and create fear among the public.
Saman Ratnayake cites the example of Saman Ratnapriya, who previously posed as a trade union leader in the health sector and later entered parliament through the national list. He expresses concern that several other trade union leaders may be following a similar path, leading to the potential detriment of the health sector.
