Three farmers were killed in a lightning strike at the same paddy field in the Thannimuruppu area in Mullaitivu on the yesterday (15th) evening. The three farmers were in three places in the paddy field, however and they were killed in the paddy field by a lightning strike.
The deceased have been identified as Kanapathipillai Mayuran (35), P. Swarnan (35) and S. Sujeewan (46) of Vattapalai, Mullaitivu.
After informing the Mullaitivu Police, police investigations have commenced and the bodies of the deceased were found in the paddy fields until the Mullaitivu Magistrate arrived at the scene to conduct an on-site investigation.
