Various social and economic issues forced 2718 children to drop out of school last year(2021), according to the annual audit report issued by the National Audit Office for the year 2021 in respect of the Department of Probation and Child Care Services,
The Department of Probation and Child Protection Services has also implemented various programmes to encourage children who do not have the opportunity to engage in continuous school education due to various economic or social factors to go back to school.
The department has also implemented a scholarship programme to help the children of less fortunate families succeed in their education.
In a bid to achieve this objective, a sum of Rs 16.724 million was spent in the last year.
