25 containers of chillies imported from Pakistan to Sri Lanka have been reexported to the country of origin due to containing carcinogenic aflatoxin a spokesperson of the Food Control Unit of the Ministry of Health said
Inspection of chillies imported from Pakistan revealed that they were continuously unfit for consumption.
He said that with the stoppage of chilli exports in India, Sri Lanka had to import required Chillies from Pakistan. The tests revealed that most of the chillies imported from Pakistan contained Aflatoxcins.
However, the spokesman said that no food unfit for human consumption will be released to the market and re-exported.
