Deshapriya denies all allegations against EC

Elections to be held under strict health guidelines

Elections Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya has said he denies all allegations leveled against the EC. According to him, the aim of the EC to hold the elections in the first possible instance. 

He also said that this election will have to be held following strict health guidelines unlike elections held previously. 

The Chairman said this yesterday (02) making a special announcement on the elections. He said the EC has no intention to delay elections. 

Accordingly, Deshapriya denied all the allegations leveled against the EC claiming it is attempting to delay the elections. He also said the EC is prepared to follow all health guidelines set by the authorities.

He also noted that as health officials will have to be involved in the upcoming elections the EC will need longer preparation time. 

The Chairman said the EC had carried out the initial preparations for the elections during the past weeks and the plans will be carried out to hold the elections in the near future.
