200 Million not sufficient need 130 more for Independence!

The Ministry of Public Administration has requested the Treasury to provide an additional sum of 140 million rupees as the initial allocation of 200 million rupees by the government is not sufficient for the independence celebrations organized by the government for the 75th independence commemoration on February 4.

However, so far, the Finance Ministry Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena has not given his approval for this, and the Ministry of Public Administration, Local Government, and Home Affairs has been informed that the maximum amount that could be allocated based on the current financial situation is 200 million rupees.

A number of programs have been organized for the celebration of “Namo Namo Mata: A Step to the Century,” and the Ministry of Finance has been informed that these programs will cost more than the earlier estimate.

Although the country is in a huge economic crisis, nearly three thousand special guests have been invited for the 75th Independence Day celebrations, and the estimates indicate that nearly 40 million rupees have been spent to build temporary compartments at the Galle Face Green for this purpose.
