13 year boy dies after falling in to a culvert amidst heavy rains

A 13-year-old school boy of Kurunegala died today after falling into a water-filled culvert and being trapped for almost an hour due to the torrential rain that fell in the Kurunegala area today.

Sachitra Senaratne, a resident of Kurunegala Jayantipura area, who was studying in the grade 08 of Kurunegala Maliyadewa Model school ​ was the victim.
He faced this accident when he was traveling on a side road leading to Jayantipura area from school to go home after finishing school.

It is said that he slipped on the side of the road when he was to giving way to a school van. He was swept away in the waterway and stuck in the culvert.

Heavy rain is continuously falling in the Kurunegala area and due to this the water has overflowed and flowed through the canal. Due to this, it is said that the surrounding area including the road was completely covered with water.
