12 State Owned Luxury Vehicles Sold At 28 Million In North Central – Dayasiri Alleges

Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Dayasiri Jayasekara has alleged that the North Central Provincial Council sold 22 luxury state-owned vehicles at unusually low prices through a secretive tender process.

Jayasekara highlighted that 12 out of the 22 vehicles — including a BMW and three Toyota Prados — were auctioned for a total of only Rs. 28 million. He stated that these vehicles were sold without accounting for the government taxes usually imposed on vehicle imports. According to him, the proceeds from selling a single popular government vehicle model, such as a Cabriolet, could have matched that amount.

He further claimed that a BMW previously used by the former Chief Minister and Governor was sold for less than Rs. 5 million, despite having a market value of over Rs. 15 million.

Jayasekara accused the provincial authorities of undervaluing public assets and conducting the auction in a non-transparent manner. He warned that additional vehicles are now being prepared for auction at similarly low prices.
