Three officers from the Athurugiriya Police Station, including a Sub-Inspector, have been temporarily reassigned to the Mirihana Police Headquarters following an investigation into the wrongful arrest of writer Kasun Mahendra Heenatigala, son-in-law of the late legendary artist Jackson Anthony.

The Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Corruption Unit and two police constables were transferred on the directive of the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) for the Colombo Southern Division. This action follows a complaint lodged by Heenatigala at the Police Headquarters Relief Cell. Police Media Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police, and Advocate Buddhika Manathunga confirmed the transfers.

The incident has drawn significant public attention, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Heenatigala’s arrest. Authorities have assured the public that appropriate measures will be taken to address any misconduct.

As of now, further details about the incident and the ongoing investigation remain limited. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
