President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that discussions with the United States regarding President Trump’s recent tariffs were very productive. He added that both countries are expected to issue a joint statement on the matter soon.

Speaking at a public rally held in Ratnapura, the President said that the delegation, which includes the Deputy Minister of Finance, is currently in the United States for these discussions. They informed him that the meetings were very fruitful.

He further shared his thoughts:    “We are making 2025 the year Sri Lanka achieves its highest export earnings. A tax issue has arisen in the United States that could impact our export sector, including garments. We are working to resolve this issue. My delegation, including the Deputy Minister of Finance, visited the United States and held discussions the day before yesterday. They informed me that the talks went very well. As a result, both sides are expected to release a joint statement soon. We are doing our best to resolve this issue between the United States and Sri Lanka.”
