Arjuna Herath, a seasoned finance and corporate governance leader, has been named the new Chairman of the Board of Investment (BOI) of Sri Lanka. With decades of experience across multiple industries and regulatory bodies, Herath is expected to bring a strong strategic vision to the BOI.
Herath’s distinguished career includes serving as Senior Partner and Head of Consulting at Ernst & Young (EY) in Sri Lanka and the Maldives. He also held the position of Chairman at the Sri Lanka Personal Data Protection Authority, further enhancing his extensive regulatory expertise.
He currently sits on the Board of Directors at the Colombo Stock Exchange, adding significant value through his deep knowledge of finance and regulations. Over the years, Herath has also contributed to Sri Lanka’s financial oversight, serving as a Board Member of the Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board and as a Commissioner for the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka.
Herath’s experience is not limited to regulatory roles. He previously held private-sector leadership positions, including Marketing Development Manager at Ceylon Tobacco Company and Director of Corporate Finance at the Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka.
A highly respected Senior Chartered Accountant, Herath is a Past President of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka. He has also served in various international roles, including as Past President of the South Asian Federation of Accountants, Board Member of the Confederation of Asia Pacific Accountants, and Chairman of the Professional Accountancy Organization Development Committee of the International Federation of Accountants.
Herath’s broad expertise and leadership credentials make him a pivotal figure in Sri Lanka’s economic development initiatives, as he takes on this critical role at the BOI.
