Crisis-ridden SLPP is yet to nominate names for the new Cabinet of President Wickremesinghe

The SLPP is still struggling to sort out internal issues after nominating Namal Rajapakse, Johnston Fernando, Rohitha Abeygunawardena, and Sanath Nishantha to be members of the new all-party Cabinet. The proposed all-party government is more likely to be a national government under the prevailing circumstances.

Although arrangements were in place to finalise the new Cabinet, the crisis-ridden SLPP is yet to nominate the new list of names.

The inordinate delay on the part of the SLPP has prompted President Ranil Wickremesinghe to request the SLPP to nominate their Cabinet members at the earliest possibility.

The new Cabinet could not get off the ground owing to the problems within the SLPP.

Although the SLPP initially recommended these members to the Cabinet, there was equally strong opposition from other quarters within the SLPP to the names proposed. The president, hence, put off the swearing-in of the new Cabinet.

The group opposed these names, saying that it would not augur well for the SLPP to nominate such people for whom there was no public sympathy at all.
