The Sri Lanka Freedom Party has decided to leave the government immediately.The decision was taken on the recommendation of a majority of SLFP MPs representing the government.
A special discussion held toady evening under the chairmanship of the President of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, former President Maithripala Sirisena to further discuss these proposals.
During a recent discussion between the SLFP and the President, the SLFP called for the immediate establishment of an interim government. It was requested and notified in writing.
According to the letter, the SLFP last week decided to leave the government if the president did not decide to impose an interim government within five days. The decision was also communicated to the President.
However, the SLFP has not been informed that an interim government will be in place until 6 this evening, a party MP told Lankasara.
The spokesman further said that his party would leave the government and sit in parliament as a separate group on the basis of this situation and the proposal of a majority of its MPs.
