Former President takes up character assassination project

Former Minister of Finance, Ravi Karunanayake has accused former President Maithripala Sirisena of now taking up a character assassination project after holding on to executive power for five years but taking no action.

He noted that the President had claimed it had not been possible to repatriate Arjun Mahendran because those in the Yahapalana government had written to the INTERPOL and Singapore government to prevent his arrest. “This is a very childish statement,” he said adding that INTERPOL or a foreign government cannot be influenced in that manner.

Karunananayek noted that there is an accepted method of communication and dealings between governments and it cannot be changed through personal connections or friendships.

He also said that Sirisena was not appointed as President in 2015 to hamper the work of the Prime Minister of the Ministers. He noted that however Sirisena had carried on making similar statements during his five-year tenure and is now assassinating the characters of others with elections in mind.

Ravi Karunanayake said that such a childish statement to cover up his inability would only worsen the situation for him.
