President’s office hands list of responsibilities to Army top brass assigned to tackle Covid

The President’s Office has listed a number of responsibilities for the 25 Army officers tasked with combating Covid 19 in all provinces of the country.

Accordingly the officers appointed will have to :

  • Control the spread of diseases directly related to the Covid-19 virus, in order to minimize the impact of the epidemics on normal activities.
  • Carry out the Covid 19 quarantine process.
  • Provide transport for those being quarantined.
  • Coordinate with the Presidential Secretariat, the Economic Revival and Poverty Alleviation Task Force, the Ministry of Health, the State Ministry of Disaster Management, etc. to manage other emergencies and needs of the general public.

The Presidential Secretariat on the recommendation of General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army and Head of the National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID -19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), appointed 25 Senior Army Officers for all districts to combat Covid, effective from 01 January 2021.
