EDB Fast-Tracks Fuel Supply to Safeguard Exports

The Export Development Board (EDB) has announced a fast-track fuel supply program to ensure uninterrupted operations for Sri Lanka’s export sector amid the ongoing fuel shortage.

EDB Chairman Mangala Wijesinghe said the initiative, backed by the government, will prioritize fuel distribution to more than 4,500 exporters across key industries such as apparel, tea, spices, and other major sectors.

The move comes as Sri Lanka faces rising fuel constraints linked to Middle East tensions and the QR-based fuel rationing system, which have placed additional pressure on businesses.

Wijesinghe noted that the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship is currently collecting essential data from exporters to facilitate the program. He urged exporters who have not yet submitted their details to do so without delay to ensure timely fuel allocations.

Speaking at a media briefing, Wijesinghe stressed that the export sector remains a top national priority, given its critical role in sustaining the economy and earning foreign exchange.

He assured that the EDB will coordinate closely with relevant authorities to provide all necessary support, enabling exporters to continue operations without disruption.

The initiative is expected to help maintain Sri Lanka’s competitiveness in global markets despite the ongoing energy challenges.
