SLPP Issues Statement on Shiranthi and Siriliya Saviya Probe

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) says the summoning of former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa to the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) is an act of political revenge.

Issuing a statement, the SLPP media unit said Mrs. Rajapaksa was called to the FCID regarding the “Siriliya Saviya” account, even though all related files and account details have been in the custody of the FCID for the past 11 years.

The party stressed that there is no new evidence in the case and that all documents connected to the alleged account were handed over to the FCID in 2015. Despite this, Mrs. Rajapaksa was summoned again yesterday to be questioned about files that, according to the SLPP, have remained with investigators for more than a decade.

The SLPP further stated that the Siriliya Saviya Foundation was established in 2006 as a registered social service organization. It was formed during the tenure of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa with the aim of empowering rural women by helping them find livelihoods and support their families.

According to the statement, there were several attempts to restart and continue the activities of the foundation, but these efforts were blocked by certain investigators.

The SLPP media unit insisted that the renewed focus on the Siriliya Saviya account is not based on justice, but on political motives, and called on authorities to act fairly and without bias.
