The Kandy District Secretariat was placed on high alert today (28) following a bomb scare.
As a result, several departments, including the Bomb Disposal Unit, were called to the Kandy District Secretariat this morning. The emergency search was launched after the District Secretary informed the police about a threatening message sent to the official email address of the District Secretariat, claiming that a bomb planted in a vehicle would be detonated within the premises.

Police said the search operation began at around 10.00 a.m. today (28), with the assistance of police sniffer dogs.
With the arrival of the search teams, including the Bomb Disposal Unit, the main entrance of the District Secretariat was closed, causing significant inconvenience to members of the public who had arrived to obtain services.
Security forces prevented people from entering or leaving the premises during the operation. Police also instructed officers and employees who had arrived in vehicles to park them at designated locations. As a result, vehicle owners were seen leaving their duties and returning to their cars.
Search operations are currently ongoing.
