Trump Warns of Retaliation as He Offers Sri Lanka 30% Tariff Deal

US President Donald Trump has sent a letter to Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake offering a fixed 30% tariff rate on all imports from Sri Lanka to the United States.

In the letter, President Trump warned that if Sri Lanka decided to increase tariffs on imports from the US, Washington would impose an additional tariff equal to that increase on top of the existing 30% rate applied to Sri Lankan exports.

President Trump stated that despite the ongoing trade deficit with Sri Lanka, the US is willing to continue economic cooperation. He invited President Anura Kumara to engage with what he described as “an extraordinary economy, the largest in the world.”

He further noted that Sri Lanka can supply tariff-free goods to the US if they are produced within American soil, encouraging Sri Lankan investors and manufacturers to consider setting up operations in the US.
