Deputy Minister of Labour, Mahinda Jayasinghe, tabled a set of documents in Parliament today (April 9) related to the controversial resale of a piece of land that Shiranthi Rajapaksa had donated to the Manelwatta Nagananda Buddhist Temple. The land was reportedly resold to a person from the Dehiwala area 11 years after the original donation.
The Deputy Minister had previously tabled a set of documents concerning this land in Parliament. He stated that an investigation has been initiated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) regarding the incident and assured that all relevant information would be provided to the investigation units.
Speaking in Parliament today, the Deputy Minister said:
“In the past few days, a matter was raised regarding a piece of land, mentioning my name. Various allegations have also been made against me in the media. I had already tabled the title deeds of this land and clarified its ownership. The land is clearly registered under the name of the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Diyagama, while the remaining land plots are registered under Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa.”
He further revealed that on October 10, 2023, all these land plots were re-registered to Mr. Samararatne Kodikara, a resident of S. De S. Jayasinghe Mawatha, Dehiwala, for various prices.
