The Government Medical Officers’ Association and Specialist Medical Officers have strongly protested an appointment made by the Ministry of Health.
Both unions point out that the appointment of Dr. Jayanga Tilakarathna as a resident specialist in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Castle Street Hospital for Women violates established transfer procedures. The medicos are calling on fellow medico Dr. Anil Jasingha to revoke this ‘arbitrary’ appointment immediately.
The Association further states that Dr Jayanga Tilakarathna, who the current government appointed as the Chairman of the Sri Jayawardenepura Hospital, should have followed due process if he wished to continue his clinical practice at a nearby hospital.
Therefore, the Association urges the Health Secretary to revoke this arbitrary appointment immediately, ensure adherence to proper transfer procedures, and provide assurances that the regulations governing transfers will be followed.
