The passenger ferry service between India and Kankesanthurai, suspended due to adverse weather conditions, will resume operations on January 2, according to an announcement by India’s Siva Gangi Shipping Company on December 31.
The shipping company has decided to operate the service every day except Sunday. However, the company is considering temporarily suspending the service during the monsoon season due to the significant impact of monsoon rains on this route. The company’s director stated that they are also seeking technical advice to implement alternative measures to maintain operations year-round.
With the service resumption, the fare for a one-way trip from Nagapattinam in India to Kankesanthurai in Jaffna has been reduced to Rs. 35,000, a decrease of Rs. 1,600 from the previous fare.
