In a coordinated operation following intelligence provided by the Navy Intelligence Division, a multi-day vessel transporting heroin was apprehended approximately one hundred kilometers off the coast of Dewundara, according to the Navy. The Navy’s intervention resulted in the arrest of eleven individuals and the confiscation of 70 kilograms of heroin, along with two small boats.
Both the multi-day vessel and the smaller boats involved in the drug transport were taken to the Southern Naval Base. This drug seizure marks the Navy’s second major operation of the year, following a previous raid on January 6th. The subsequent investigations into this latest operation are being conducted by the Police Narcotics Bureau.
