50 alarming signal units out of 200 installed at level crossings are out of order even before the end of their warranty period and due to this, the loss of 242.13 million rupees incurred by the Railway Department should be recovered from the supplier and related parties the Sri Lanka’s National Audit Office recommends.

The audit has also recommended investigating further on the procurement whether the supplier met with required qualifications to award this tender. The Audit further recommends It should be checked whether this is a fraudulent transaction and appropriate steps should be taken.

It was revealed that the technical evaluation committee did not work transparently in the evaluation of this tender. Also, the audit has recommended that the Technical Assessment Committee should consider the proper performance of its duties regarding the failure of the Technical Assessment Committee to provide sufficient and true information to the Cabinet.

Out of the 200 warning systems installed by the supplier company, 50 systems have been out of order by June 20, 2023.
