Renowned Indian billionaire businessman Mukesh Ambani announced today (10) at the “Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit – 2024” that India will bid for the hosting rights of the 2036 Olympics.
Mukesh Ambani, who is Asia’s richest individual, stated during his address that his company, Reliance Industries, will shoulder the major investment responsibilities for the Olympic bid.
The announcement comes in the midst of the “Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit – 2024,” a business event aimed at attracting investments to the state of Gujarat. Ambani’s declaration aligns with the interest expressed by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the opening ceremony of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) session held in Mumbai on October 14th, 2023.
During his speech, Prime Minister Modi had stated, “Our effort to organize the Olympics in India in 2036 will have the consent of every citizen of India. This is an old dream of 1.4 billion Indians, it is their aspiration.” India has never hosted the Olympics before, and the bid for the 2036 Games represents a significant ambition for the country.
Mukesh Ambani, serving as the Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, currently holds the title of Asia’s richest man, with an estimated net worth of $92 billion as of December 2023. The bid for the 2036 Olympics, with Reliance Industries as a key investor, reflects a significant move toward enhancing India’s global sporting presence.
The “Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit – 2024” is in its 10th edition and is being held in Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The event has drawn participation from various global leaders, including the President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
