Japan is dealing with the aftermath of a potent 7.6 magnitude earthquake, resulting in collapsed homes, damaged roads, and heightened concerns over tsunamis. Coastal areas along the Sea of Japan were issued tsunami warnings, prompting the evacuation of thousands of residents to higher ground.
The earthquake struck around 16:00 local time, generating subsequent smaller tremors in central Japan, with expectations of further seismic activity. Tsunami waves, though smaller than initially anticipated at around one meter, reached the coast in Ishikawa prefecture.
This event marks the first major tsunami alert in Japan since the 2011 earthquake. The Noto area, near the quake’s epicenter, initially faced a significant tsunami alert, intensifying regional concerns.
Despite the challenges posed by the earthquake, no irregularities have been reported at nuclear power plants along the Sea of Japan, offering some reassurance.
