A 21-year-old navy soldier and her 28-year-old sister were arrested by the Kalutara South Police for allegedly assaulting police officers during a traffic stop.

The main suspect is a navy soldier on leave from a naval base in Kankasantura. The incident occurred when the two suspects were stopped by a traffic officer near the Kalutara Clock Tower.

The officer requested a permit, and when the suspects refused and exchanged words, the traffic officer called for backup. The suspects allegedly abused the traffic officer, and upon inspection of their motorcycle’s cabin, two beer cans and a 9 cm long folding knife were found. The suspects were taken into custody and were to be produced before the Kalutara Magistrate’s Court.
