An audit report from the National Audit Office has unveiled fuel irregularities at the Ambewela factory owned by Milco Company. Over the past eight years (from 2015 to August 31, 2022), 17,209,467 liters of diesel, issued by the Petroleum Corporation, were reportedly unloaded into the oil tanks of the Milco factory.

Additionally, in the last six years (from 2017 to August 31, 2022), 14 bowser vehicles carrying 92,400 liters of diesel worth Rs. 9,364,835 did not arrive at the factory, despite payment for the fuel.

The audit report highlighted discrepancies in signatures on invoices for some stocks, noting inconsistencies with the signatures of security department officials.

Furthermore, 58,703 liters of diesel were reportedly misplaced during the release of diesel from tanks for the power generator at the Ambewela Dairy Factory.

The audit emphasized the weak internal control measures in place and recommended disciplinary action against those involved in the fuel irregularities. Milco Company’s management confirmed that internal audits were conducted, resulting in the suspension of responsible officials, and ongoing disciplinary investigations.

The Criminal Investigation Department is also reportedly conducting its own investigations into the matter.
