The Kandy Police have successfully secured a court order to prohibit former Management Assistant Denuka Nishanthi Menike, who previously served in the revenue department of the city council, from traveling abroad as she stand accused of engaging in fraudulent activities over a period of four years.
According to the investigation department, Menike had transferred from the revenue department of Kandy Municipality to the provincial revenue department in January of the previous year. The alleged fraudulent activities came to light during her tenure at the new workplace.
At the request of Kandy Municipal Commissioner Ishan Wijethilika, an investigation committee was appointed by Central Provincial Local Government Commissioner Chamila Athapattu. Based on the recommendations of this committee, the implicated employee was subsequently suspended.
Information indicating that Menike had recently renewed her expired foreign travel permit raised concerns within the Kandy Municipal Council, leading to a report filed by the police. Consequently, they obtained the court order from the Kandy Court to prevent her from leaving the country.
Reports also suggest that Menike’s husband is currently residing abroad.
Although the Kandy Municipal Council has called upon the former management assistant to provide a statement regarding the fraud allegations, she has yet to cooperate with the police investigation.
