TNPF MP Files Complaint over Pongal Festival Incident at Kurundi Vihara

Selvarasa Gajendran, MP Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF), has submitted a complaint to the Mulathivu Police yesterday (19) accusing individuals of obstructing Hindu devotees during a Pongal festival at the Kurundi Temple. The alleged obstruction occurred despite a court order from the Mulathivu court confirming the religious rights of Hindu devotees.

Gajendran’s complaint asserts that it is unjust for Sinhala Buddhist forces to act against the rights of the Hindu community, especially when the court has affirmed their religious freedom.

The incident occurred last friday (18) when Hindu devotees were celebrating the Pongal festival near the Kurundi Temple. At the same time, Sinhala Buddhists were preparing for an Ashirwada Pooja, organized for the Vassana period.

Mahanayake Thero at Kurundi Temple commented that the reverend has taken legal action by filing a petition with the Court of Appeal to challenge the order issued by the Mulathivu court.
