The Ceylon Electricity Board has revealed that the arrears related to electricity supply for the wedding ceremony of Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa have not been settled. Responding to a request under the Freedom of Information Act made by Naleen Hevage, a former provincial council member of Janatha Vimukti Peramuna, the Electricity Board disclosed that an expenditure of Rs. 26,82,246.57 was incurred for installing security lights and generators at Weerakatiya House, as requested by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa. However, the outstanding amount remains unpaid.

In response to the circulating information on social media, Namal Rajapaksa, the Hambantota District Member of Parliament, sent a letter through his coordinating secretary, Sanjeeva Wijeratne to Chairman of Ceylon Electricity Board.

Rajapaksa stated that he was not aware of any unpaid electricity bill and labeled the information as critical and defamatory. He requested the Chairman to provide accurate details regarding the alleged bill, including the name of the recipient, date of issuance, and the address it pertains to.
