The Constitutional Council has approved the appointment of Senior Professor Manjula Fernando as the new Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission.
The senior professor is a learned professional working in the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of the University of Peradeniya.
He is scheduled to take over the post today. Janaka Ratnayake, who was previously the chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, was removed from that position after passing a resolution in the Parliament.
