Welisara Navy camp to open in stages this week 

The Welisara Navy Camp will be opened in stages this week after a lengthy quarantine period of nearly 60 days. The country’s health services gave the Navy the go-ahead this week when a letter from the Director-General of Health Services Dr Anil Jasinghe declaring the camp was handed over to the Navy Commander.

The operations of the camp are expected to commence in several stages.  According to the instructions given by the DG of Health, the Navy will be able to open all parts of the camp for regular duties except for its hospital.

The largest Covid 19 cluster was reported from the Sri Lanka Navy after its first patient was discovered on April 22. According to the Health authorities for the last three days, no Covid 19 positive cases have been reported from the Navy. 

According to statistics from the Ministry of Health, 901 Covid 19 positive cases were reported from the Navy alone. To date 774 have recovered while another 127 continues to receive treatment in hospitals across the country.
